This Gefreiter takes advantage of the lull before the counter attack to make contact with Kompanie HQ. Communication became increasingly difficult in the latter stages of the war, so every opportunity to gain clarity over a situation was taken. |

Following his contact with Kompanie HQ, the Gefreiter settles down for a cultural game of chess, while a fresh young replacement looks on. Even at rest though, the accoutrements of war are never far away, in this instance a MP40. |
